As May comes to a close, there’s nothing in the sense of BSB land as a group. They’re on a break generally speaking outside of a few festival appearances. But hey! That’s okay. Because when the group goes on a break, there’s usually at least two Backstreet Boys that like to go off and do their own thing.

Our two youngest members are each about to go back out on their respective tours. So let’s talk about it. I’ve been to both and I can give you a rundown of exactly what to expect as we go into summer concert season.

AJ – A Legendary Night with Joey Fatone

This tour is a mix of everything. It’s a bit of Backstreet. It’s a bit of NSYNC. It’s a dash of 90’s and a hint of early 2000s. For me, personally, it reminded me a lot of The After Party shows they did with Nick and Wanya from Boyz II Men back in 2021. You have that same sense of humor and interaction in the audience. Actually, the interaction has gone up a couple levels because we’re not in the midst of pandemic restrictions this time. They have a roulette list essentially of covers and other songs, they toss a giant di into the crowd and whatever number they get, that’s the song they sing. Fun right? Hearing AJ sing Space Cowboy, a song I didn’t even realize was a thing as a BSB lifer, well that’s a vibe. Depending on who’s near by they’ve had guests pop up during the show like Howie or Lance Bass. Not to mention AJ lets us hear some songs for the yet unreleased solo album that he promises we’ll actually hear this year. (We hope). His relationship with Joey on stage has been low key hilarious too.

Pay real close attention when he sings Arizona. I promise you won’t regret it.

Tour starts up again on May 30th. Get Tickets and VIP here.

Nick – The Who I Am Tour

I’ve talked about this show in depth on my Nick blog, Forever Rebel but let me give you a little bit of a rundown here too. This show is Nick showing everyone exactly who he is obvious as that might be from the title, outside of being “just a Backstreet Boy”. He sings songs from his childhood, songs he feels represent him, and songs that really speak for him if you know what I mean. The vibe as he rocks out on stage is a reminder that he’s right where he belongs. So you get eighties songs, you get Backstreet songs, you get solo Nick songs, you get it all. Not to mention this show is also ever changing. This show has changed from leg to leg, literally! I’ve had people ask me what the set list is but I always have to go “well, which version?” and advise that while some songs have seemed to be consistent…four or five songs change in and out.  He’s already been asking on Instagram Live what songs we’d like to see.

You want to go to this tour, because I’ve never seen a more authentic Nick on stage than we’re getting right now. There’s things he wants to say and he’s saying it…if you pay attention.

Tour starts up again on June 24th. Get tickets and VIP here.

The Music

Both Boys have been working on music. Nick has released Never Break My Heart (Not Again) back in January of this year, while AJ released Electric for Valentine’s day. Nick most recently did a small collaboration for the song So Sweet and has been back in the recording studio just last week saying he’s been writing more. AJ has been working on a solo album, well, for a while. (AJ, we love you. We promise.) But he did say the album is supposed to be out by the end of 2024. Nick and AJ have also been saying big things are coming for the group in 2025 so it looks like they’re looking to get everything they can do solo out this year before jumping back into the group. Which as always, for both of them, takes priority.

So What Comes Next?

Honestly it’s hard to tell with these two. For now, Nick is virtually booked on tour for the rest of the year. AJ does have some longer breaks after summer ends. So we could be looking at an album release. Maybe. If things pick up in that aspect I’ll do a tracking post so we can keep tabs on everything he’s working on. Really that applies to both Boys. If it looks like we have a solo album for sure coming in this year, you’ll see posts with all the updates. My hunch is we’ll see singles while they tour and then back to the Boys next year. But who knows?

For now…

Life is short! Go to the concerts!
