Fair warning, it’s highly likely this post will come off as cheesy.
I regret nothing.
So, I thought about writing this earlier this week. But I needed to sit and absorb, really let my thoughts sink in, you know? Something I think only Backstreet Boys fans understand, is that this week a lot of us got emotional. It’s crazy to think about, but it’s true. I saw it in so many tweets. There was an outpouring of light, love, and just pure celebration at seeing our favorite five back on national TV. You know what it reminded me of? It reminded me of when Don’t Go Breaking My Heart started playing on on radio and broke into the charts. There was that same level of excitement and happiness. Where fans were just basking in the moment and the high it brought, seeing our favorite group succeed.
It’s fair to acknowledge this week was a long time coming.
And damn was it healing to a lot of us. It was a gift.
We’ve been waiting anxiously to see them on stage, singing Christmas songs on our TVs for about two years now. And there’s so many things that went so beautifully right about this. First off, we got three Christmas songs that never aired on TV here before. Second, they didn’t sing I Want It That Way. (Just kidding. If you know, you know.) Third, there was a magic in the air. This energy and serendipity that continued throughout the night. The crowd was going wild for them, they were louder for our Boys than the other acts. The Boys were absolutely basking in that energy too. You could tell they were having fun that day. Kelly Clarkson was thrilled to see them, based on the video Kristin posted on her Instagram Stories the other day.
We love that for them.
We’ve been getting consistent content, including this adorable viral video of the Boys with the legendary Rockettes. If you’ve somehow missed it, I’ll do you the solid of putting it here so you can watch it. Even if you have seen it, why not watch it again? You can just tell that they were living their best lives on Wednesday. Not to mention, how cool is it that they got to do this with such a talented group of women?
Again, we love that for them.
Not to mention, Andrew from the iconic Wham!, you know, the band that originally created Last Christmas, was there with the Boys. He was dancing during their performance, absolutely giving his seal of approval to their take on the song.
How iconic is that?
Generally speaking, the Boys have been on a major break. With the exception of the random festival shows or events, we just haven’t seen them together recently. Especially on TV! And watching them live, getting all the love and support they deserve, that we’ve known they deserved? It’s beautiful. It was magic. They shone on that stage. Fans and nonfans alike, couldn’t help but notice. It was all over social media.
It even began to snow as they performed Christmas In New York.
Like seriously, even the weather even chimed in to add to the magical mood.
Really what this special did was remind us and the world that they are still here. It showed us, reminded us, reminded the country, that they are an international sensation. That doesn’t just go away. Something that like that? It never goes away. There’s a reason they were and still remain the best selling boyband in history. As a fandom, we are still here. They are thriving. This is something that deserves to be celebrated and I’m so glad that it is. It’s beautiful. No one can take all they’ve accomplished away from them. No one can take their status as the legends they are away from them. This appearance was a tribute to their resilience as they stood strong and shone.
And that’s what they’ll continue to do.
Because at the end of the day, that’s exactly who they are.
They’re not going anywhere.
