Wherever you are, baby, that’s where I wanna be… – A “No Place” Review

The first thing I think when I sit down and let my fingers rest of my keyboard as I listen to BSB’s latest buzz single on repeat…is how calming No Place is. This is the type of song you kick your shoes off and have a drink to. So far with the three tastes of DNA we’ve gotten, they’ve been living up to the Boys’ promises of a diverse album. We’ve gotten straight up dance hit with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, and Chances gave us a powerful mid-tempo ballad. But with No Place we switch over to a very country influenced song. My surprise is how much I like the song in all honesty. I think that speaks a lot to the song itself, personally.

I’m not the type to like everything the Boys have ever put out. I have my tastes as you guys know. Country isn’t one of them. But I’m learning I like it as long as it has BSB vocals and more importantly? Backstreet Harmonies. The harmonies you hear around the two minute mark? They give me chills. Those are the harmonies that made me a fan way back in the day. That’s the sound that’s kept me around all these years. When those five voices blend in that one way, it’s freaking magical. There’s nothing like it out there. That spark is why BSB is the best selling boyband in history, right there.

This song doesn’t do the vocal runs that you see in Chances, the video doesn’t have the flashy moves of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart but in this case? That’s a good thing. There’s a level of control on this track that makes it the feel good song that it is. You can hear again, all five soar on this song in a more simplistic way, and I’m thankful for it in this beautiful year of 2019. Because of this toned down version, this song soothes you, it just makes you feel good damn it.

And this is just the melody and vocals I’m covering. So let me touch down upon the lyrics.

Sometimes lyrics don’t make or break a song…sometimes they do. In this case they’re why you might just get a bit teary eyed listening, or watching the music video. Because they’re talking about their families, their wives, their kids, and how nothing is like coming home to them. Can we take a moment to appreciate how sweet that is? This song is like the sequel to Feels Like Home in a way, in that while the world feels like home thanks to the fans…there’s no place like their families.

It feels like with this song, they’re sharing yet another piece of themselves. This is a song they feel deep within and that’s the kind of music I want to see from them. Music they’re passionate about. Songs that mean the world to them – whether they’ve written them or not. That sort of thing makes all the difference in the world. So thank you Boys, for giving us yet another peak into that crazy world of yours. I think I speak for all of us that January 25th just isn’t coming soon enough.

You’re my daybreak, you’re my California sun
You’re my Memphis, New York, New Orleans all rolled into one
In the city, the country, the mountains or sea
Wherever you are, baby, that’s where I wanna be
I’ve been all around the world, done all there is to do
But you’ll always be the home I wanna come home to
You’re a wild night with a hell of a view
There ain’t no place, ain’t no place like you
