Fandom Life – When It All Started

This post, wasn’t really my idea so much. Emilia (one of my co-mods on the TDS forum, and who runs Kaos Online), started a thread on our lovely forum that we have, asking when and how people became a fan. So then my co-tweeter (and other co-mod) Gemma, asked the same question. The responses? WERE AWESOME. I loved it. The tweets kept on coming. Everyone loved sharing their story. It was beautiful. Because as Sara (from What Happens On The Backstreet) pointed out, fandom is our common thread. it’s what binds us together. Think of how the force flows through Jedis, only like…the music version through a group a fans who may not have anything in common. So I gathered the tweets and I’ll likely edit this to add the posts from the thread itself.

These are the whens, and the hows…of how many people got Hooked On Backstreet.

My daughter was listening to BSB and I Liked their music too. We have been to 2 concerts in Greensboro, NC. They were awesome! And I've been a fan ever since. Also, my husband passed away May 11, 2017. I can connect with the songs. Like Show me the Meaning of Being Lonely.

I was watching MTV… It was 1996 and I was 11… all of a sudden I saw a new video of a new band, a speaker on the radio was introducing 5 guys… my eyes locked up and I remember liking the song and the video a lot, it was “we’ve got it goin’ on”,22 years ago…2/3 of my life!

Summer of 99. Bought a magazine by chance with them on the cover, read the article, then caught the IWITW video. By the end of the yr, I was hooked 😊

1997. Here in Australia the first taste we got of the Backstreet Boys was ‘Quit playing games’
I was watching the music channel as a 14 year old when the song came on and i looked at Brian and said ‘WHO IS THAT!?’ More than 20 years later the love continues 💙

I’ve been a fan since 1995 I was 5 years old now I am 27 years old and my older sister was listening to them in her room and I was talking to her and asking who they are and she told me their names and once i saw the get down music video I was hooked and been a fan ever since!

1995. I was at a shopping mall here in Montreal & a new band was playing. We went to see who they were. And then I saw @nickcarter 😍😍 I had to see & hear more. I was 12 years old but I got instantly hooked on the Backstreet Sound. 23 years later, I still am more than ever 😉

I’ve been a fan since dec 96 , it all started when I heard 🎶we got it going on 🎶 on the radio , I found the Cassette single in Plattsburgh NY as was unable to find it anywhere in Montreal , my 1st show was 1/3/96 Montreal

97/98 for me. I was 11/12. Been to 3 of their concerts, one of them was last year. And you bet I'll be there for the next ones!

I was on a date with a lady in a country western bar and they played Backstreets Back and everyone started cheering and someone commented how huge they were So I checked them out and have every record since…… I love great vocal harmonies and they are the best since the Beatles.

20 years ago our English teacher got us to learn As Long As You Love Me, most girls in our class knew who they were, I had no idea, but I loved the song and decided to get Backstreet’s Back, a few days later I saw the video of QPG on tv.

I have known BSB for 25 years but I was never a fan. It change last year in March. I dreamed of them (not the first time). They stood in front of me and sang a song. But when I woke up, I could not remember the song. Now it is March again and I am one year a fan..lol
