DWTS Recap One: Cha-Cha-ing Into Our Hearts

Welcome to the first of what will be weekly recaps for Nick’s stay on Dancing With The Stars! First off, I’m saying it now, Nick’s staying till the finals. One way or another, it’s happening! I’ve been so ridiculously excited. Not to mention it’s been a blast connecting with the fanbase when something so exciting is happening. The last time something like this happened, the twitter was brand new and the blog didn’t exist yet.

And Nick showing us his appreciation along with Sharna?! I never dreamed it’d happen. But it did during a campaign you guys helped The Dark Side and What Happens On The Backstreet with yesterday to get #WeLoveTeamSharNick trending. It might not have trended, but they felt our love. That’s what mattered.

So, onto the actual episode!

Can we take a moment to focus on that intro? I mean for anyone who was with us the night they filmed it and saw the countless videos of Nick being, well, Nick…we knew it’d be priceless. But man! It was big and it was fun and I can’t get that damn song out of my head! I loved it. Loved it enough to watch for the opening to pop up on youtube while the episode was streaming. Also, notice at the end who was in front? Carlos PenaVega, Bindi Irwin, and Nick. I’m calling it now – it’s showing who the final three will be.

Now while I’m not here to break down everyone on the show or this blog would never end, but I do want to talk about Nick’s biggest competition. Like Carlos PenaVega – aka the red suited Boybander. Now Boybanders are MADE for this show. They dance, they have the endurance and they have the musicality. They always go pretty far. I might’ve underestimated Carlos a little bit because his fanbase is smaller. His Jive was pretty damn awesome. Especially for a week one.

Let’s talk about Bindi Irwin. Now she has the household name. Who doesn’t know her father? Which leads to her story this season. Everyone is going to want to root for her. You see the audience? No? They went INSANE. Not to mention, again, she’s paired with Derek. Derek who’s probably the most popular pro-dancer on the show. She got the highest score of the night with her Jive to Crocodile Rock and it was well deserved. I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of skill but man! She’s the heavy hitter this season besides Nick.

And can we take a moment to talk about Alek? That surprised me! He did fantastic and he was a blind item in terms of skill so we might need to watch him. His foxtrot was lovely. Lindsay is a great pro and I’m glad she’s back this season. So I can easily see Alek being the sleeper dancer who gets by. A lot of people love to vote for a hero.

I still stand by what I say about Andy being a ringer. He did okay. I can see him growing to a real threat throughout the season. That musicality is definitely there and he has the fans.

Now, for what you guys really want to talk about! Nick and Sharna! Their rehearsal package was precious. PRECIOUS. Sharna is the fangirl representation on the show, so no one could be better to be paired up with him. She gets it! She understands! And the way he gets her all giggly with just a smile…been there.

Nick and Sharna were tasked with doing a cha-cha to Flo-Rida’s song I Don’t Like It, I Love It featuring Robin Thicke. And I don’t know what I was expecting honestly. I’ve been watching the show for years but this is Nick! It’s different! I shouldn’t have been worried. None of us should have been. Nick did us proud tonight guys. He tied for the highest score with Bindi and Derek, all 8s. Pretty strong for a first week. (Especially when everyone else had two weeks, Nick had four days due to Dead Seven filming but I digress…)

The fact Nick mentioned earlier in the show busting his pants open during BSB shows and then pops the button to his pants off during his routine? Hilarious. I think he jinxed himself into a wardrobe malfunction.

Carrie Ann did suggest not to let fear get in the way. It’s a fair comment. You could tell all throughout the show that Nick was battling some serious nerves. Here’s hoping now that week one is behind him, he shoves that fear away too. Oh! And the Everybody move they threw in there! Love it! Already showing some Backstreet love!

It was also adorable seeing Julianne Hough fangirl too. It’s contagious!

Nick and Sharna might be in first place with Bindi and Derek…that doesn’t mean he’s safe!
