DWTS Recap Five: Backstreet’s Back In The Ballroom

So first off I’m sorry this is being posted so late. No idea what happened but sometimes, life goes wonky. Still, I wanted to make sure this got posted (despite how late cause I worked till midnight tonight) for the non-US fans who I know use this to keep tabs on Nick. So I’m really sorry. Especially since this was so epic a night!

Tonight was “Most Memorable Year” week which is one of my favorite weeks on Dancing With The Stars because you really seem to get a feel for the stars into their personal lives. Word had gotten around that Nick’s most memorable year was 1996. Someone goofed somewhere. Because on the episode Nick picked 1992. Rightly so. It’s the year he officially joined the Backstreet Boys (albeit missing a certain Kentucky blonde…), and the group put him on a path that could’ve possibly saved him. I got emotional. No lie. That package and then seeing the Boys talk about him.

It’s easy to forget how lucky we are, as fans to have our Boys. But we’re lucky. We are SO lucky. So much could’ve gone wrong. We could’ve lost Nick. We could’ve lost AJ. The band could’ve imploded like all the other 90’s boybands did at some point or another. Our Boys are special. So damn special. And it’s nice to be reminded of that now. To see it be acknowledged. You know? I’m a fangirl full of feelings.

His dance? It was like watching a Backstreet Boys concert! Solo! Hugely jealous of Sharna but she’s adorable and awesome so there’s just “ugh I wanna be her” instead of actual hate. I mean she got to do the Everybody dance with Nick AND AJ. Yeah. I think she lived the dream for all of us right there. She choreographs fantastic Jazz routines. I personally feel he deserved AT LEAST one 10. Come on! But I could rant about that all night long. Getting back to Sharna and her fantastic routines, Jazz numbers. Those are her strength in my opinion and it showed here. Jazz, while a technical dance it’s the one that resembles the Freestyle out of all of them…because you’re given wiggle room. Example? Rewatch Alexa and Mark’s Breaking Bad Jazz routine.

Then come back.

Speaking of Alexa…well, her dance idea was sweet. That stumble? Ouch. Especially on week four. Notable dances tonight? HAYES. Where the heck did that come from?! How is this fifteen year old a freaking contender! That Contemporary dance was great! Okay Emma, I might be able to trust you with Nick.

And another contemporary dance…Bindi. Let’s talk about the person who will be in the final two with Nick. Cause let’s be real, we’re not going to let Nick go home. Period. Not an option. For me it’s a matter of which person gets to go with him. I hope it’s not Tamar cause I don’t know. Her personality puts me off. I may hate Derek but Bindi…she’s hard for me not to like. Meh. And her story, it hits home for me. That pain never fades and you always carry your loved ones with you. Speaking as someone who lost a parent three years ago, I can’t imagine having gone through it when she did. So…I might’ve teared up just from her video package. And then her dance…she deserved her score.

(But Nick still deserved a 10 too, just saying.)

And Alek…first off he’s had the craziest year I could imagine. The fact he had that tragedy to deal with at his college and having to channel that in the dance, wow. I don’t know if we can say maybe Latin dances aren’t his thing yet. He’s had a lot going on. Just…if this wasn’t Nick’s season I’d be voting for Alek. He’s a hero and he’s a great person. My thoughts and prayers are for those poor souls in Oregon.

Okay, I know we don’t tend to be too serious in here. But I felt that really needed addressing. So moving on back to Nick. I just, his dance was so in his wheelhouse you could seehim really letting loose. And the fact he had a boyband cheering section? Awesome. Sorry Carlos, you’re on the show with a guy from a REAL boyband. 90s Boybands win at life. Period. Here’s Nick’s dance below so you can enjoy the epicness.

Elimination…I’m so sad to see Gary go. No he wasn’t getting better. But his energy and his way of seeing things was so special. He was so full of life. I loved watching him. Here’s hoping the next one to go is Paula! I’m beyond tired of her.

DO NOT FORGET TO VOTE.
